M Feb 12-W Feb 14: Both days in-class studio workshop of body paragraphs. Homework for Monday Feb 19: Finish Unit 2 Essay and read the preface and Chapter 1 of Weinberger’s Small Pieces Loosely Joined.
M Feb 19: We will meet in HBC 009. Please bring an electronic copy of your essay with you, either on a jump drive or by emailing it to yourself (the machines in the clusters do not have floppy drives). Or you can upload it to your blog. However you manage it, make sure you’ve got a copy for us to work with. Quiz on Preface and Chapter 1. Discuss reading. Talk about Unit 3 Project
Homework: Chapter 2 and 3 of Weinberger. Begin to consider possible offshoot topics that you might be interested in covering for the extended research project (Unit 3).
W Feb 21: Quiz. Discuss reading. Discuss initial topic ideas.
Homework: Chapters 4, 5 and 6.
M Feb 26: Quiz. Discuss reading.
Homework: Chapters 7 and 8. Decide on a tentative topic for your extended research project and begin initial search for resources. Bring 2 possible texts with all notes to class on Wednesday.
W Feb 28: Meet in HBC 227. Class activity on evaluating sources using pages 165-177 in The Writer’s Harbrace Handbook (so please bring it to class).Constructing abstracts.
Homework: Continue research.
M Mar 5: Possible research methodologies/strategies. Survey, interview, other non-textual resourcing techniques.
Homework: Continue research. In Ballenger, read 178-190 (3rd) [184-196 5th]. Construct preliminary one-page introduction to your paper.
W Mar 7: Working on interview strategies. Workshop introductions. Homework: Find a suitable academic article for your project. Construct a one-page summary and bring to class the Monday following spring break.
M Mar 19: Work with incorporating sources, using the summaries. Work on reading and collecting data from our primary sources. Homework: Construct a data table using your own primary sources and email it to me as an attachment (.doc or .rtf) by Thursday 3.22.
W Mar 21: No class. Continue to work on your data table (send it by email to me on 3.22). Work up a draft of your Unit 3 project for your conference next week (you want at least 5 pages for the conference.) Please make sure to sign up for a conference (the sign up sheet is posted on my office door, HBC 008) before Monday 3.26.
M Mar 26 – F Mar 30: Extended individual conferences in place of class meetings. Regular classes resume on Monday 4.2. Unit 3 Extended Research Project DUE MONDAY 4.2.
